For those moving internationally by ocean vessels please note the following information.
As of the 1st of January 2020, all ships and vessels operating anywhere in the world will be required to use low sulphur fuel which contains a maximum of 0.5 percent m/m sulphur as agreed by the International
Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2016.
The new fuel blends will, at least initially, cost more. However, as we all should, the IMO aim to reduce the impacts of sulphur oxide emissions on the environment and human health. The shipping lines themselves will intend to recover the costs of complying through their customers by way of a Low Sulphur Surcharge or by an increase of current BAF Surcharges (fuel surcharges).
The Implementation date ranges between 1st of December 2019 to the 1st of January 2020.
As this is a fluctuating cost and differs from shipping line to shipping line at variable rates, we will continue to provide transparency and current information at the time of quoting shipments.
